The Position:

Reporting to the Head of Projects for their UK and Ireland business in this newly created role, the primary responsibilities of the position are:
  • To cost/manage projects and ensure the best possible value for the business.
  • To seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while achieving the required standards and quality.
  • Working closely with the Project Managers to ensure all aspects, (from initial budgets to final accounts) of their project costs are managed in an efficient and methodical manner.
  • Ensuring projects are built to budget, on time and to the agreed quality standards.

Other Main Responsibilities will include:
  • To undertake day to day project cost management for a number of Project Managers across a broad range of retail and catering schemes.
  • To prepare budget costs for new business opportunities and tenders.
  • Reviewing Landlord shell and core information, in conjunction with Project Managers, for new sites ensuring costs to our client are minimised.
  • Attending briefing meetings as required and offer advice on the cost of particular build strategies.
  • Prepare budget costs based on outline and sketch scheme designs together with presenting opportunities for cost savings.
  • Prepare fully detailed costs using our clients standard cost template sheet. To look at the implementation of a schedule of rates system to assist in streamlining certain roll out brands.
  • Tendering – Prepare Bills/Schedule and/or Scope of Works required to obtain competitive tenders. These Documents will be prepared in line with Drawings, Specifications and Details provided by the Designer.
  • Select and review, in conjunction with the Project Managers, which Contractors shall be invited for tender.
  • Arranges for agreed tender package to be sent out and also agrees the location of the tender return.
  • Undertake tender review/adjudication and issue a report to the Project Manager
  • Undertakes cost cutting exercise if the tender is in excess of the approved Capex or allocated budget.
  • Liaising with all external Consultants, including Designers, Project Coordinators and M&E Engineers and to review all aspects of their work in terms of achieving best value for our client.
  • Prepare and made recommendations for the period valuation. Approve invoices from Contractors and Suppliers and forward to Accounts for payment.
  • Track and monitor all project variations/change requests and negotiate best price. On completion, negotiate and advise on the final account in conjunction with the Project Manager at the end of the Defects Liability Period, Designer certify the Final Account.
  • Attend Post Contract review meeting as required by client Project Manager.
  • Consolidate the project against the SAP cost held by Accounts. Close the project down within 2 months after completion. Record final spend and confirm this to Finance Teams.
  • Advise on and implement standard forms of contract for projects as applicable. Obtain costs/quotations from external Suppliers and negotiate the best price.
  • Raise work orders to all contractors, consultants and suppliers for each project. Maintain files and trackers for all works orders and invoices. Provide reports as required on payments made to suppliers and contractors etc.
  • Attend site meetings (for valuation purposes) and handover meetings as required Monitor and manage project costs throughout the life of the project and update the NPD of any potential overspends. Review and ensure best value for all project variations.
  • Ensures all approvals are in place prior to instruction of issuing orders to Contractors and Suppliers.
  • Adds all completed project Information to the K:drive.
  • Authorises the issue of Certificate of Completion.
  • Ensures that the snagging for the 6 months defects liability period is completed and authorises the issue of Certificate of Making Good Defects.
  • Ensures that the project is financially consolidated. Reviews and agrees the Final account.
  • Attend project Capex review meetings prior to IC approval.
  • Attend Project development 6 weekly meetings.
  • Assists in the review of brand design and materials etc to drive best value and cost.
  • Liaises with internal departments to derive best value for such items as IT, Security, etc.
  • Working with a large number of external consultants, contractors and suppliers.

  • QS Practices and Contractors etc


The Person Specification:

We are seeking to appoint a Graduate Chartered Quantity Surveyor who ideally has experience of working in a similar client side role with a multi-site, Restaurant, Leisure or Retail Operator. However, our client will also consider appropriate Candidate working for QS Practices with relevant experience wanting to work client side.

The Location:

At least two days a week in London.
